This book is in very good condition. Gilt lettering and design on spine and front board is partially faded but still legible. Moderate wear at the board edges. Previous owner's name and date on the front pastedown. Interior pages are evenly age-toned and well preserved.
Tess of the D'Urbervilles received mixed reviews when it first appeared, in part because it challenged the sexual morals of late Victorian England. Tess was portrayed as a fighter for her rights and for the rights of others.
