This book is in good condition. Wear and tearing to the cloth at the spine ends and corners. Both hinges are cracked. Previous owner's name on the front pastedown. Page 15 (listing illustrations) is loose. Minor scattered foxing and soiling throughout the textblock.
The novel represents Twain's first attempt at historical fiction. The plot concerns the ascension of nine-year-old Edward VI of England in 1547 and his interactions with look-alike Tom Canty, a London pauper who lives with his abusive, alcoholic father.
