Mark Twain's Sketches New and Old

First edition, first state with a footnote present on page 119, and with the very same footnote repeated on page 120; On page 299 there is an 11-line skit headed "From Hospital Days", on some copies there is an inserted notice denying Mark Twain's authorship of the piece. This copy does have it present. Measuring approximately 8.75" x 6.75", with 320 numbered pages.
This book is in good plus condition. Gilt lettering and design on still bright and well preserved. Moderate wear and chipping to the edges of the boards. Spine ends with some cloth loss. Rear hinge badly cracked. Two gift inscriptions on the front endpapers. Interior pages have minor stains not affecting the text.
