This book is in good minus condition. Moderate bumping and tearing to both ends of spine. Minor sunning to spine. Minor staining to both boards. Front hinge cracked. Previous owner's name on front endpaper. Minor staining to rear endpaper and pastedown. Rear hinge cracked.
The novel is generally agreed to be Maugham's masterpiece and to be strongly autobiographical in nature, although he stated, "This is a novel, not an autobiography; though much in it is autobiographical, more is pure invention."
