Boston: John P. Jewett & Company, 1852. First Edition, Early Printings. First edition, early printings, with Seventieth Thousand stated on the title page of volume I, and ninety-fifth thousand stated in volume II. This would correspond to the 15th and 20th printings. These books measure approximately 7.5" x 4.75", with 312 and 322 numbered pages respectively.
These volumes are in good minus condition. Moderate to heavy chipping on to board edges and spine ends. Gilt lettering on both spines are still well preserved. Illustration on front boards are worn and faded. Both hinges are cracked on both volumes. Both bindings are cocked. Moderate staining and scratching to both rear boards. Vol II has amateur tape reinforcement on spine. Vol I has a gift inscription on the second front endpaper. Light foxing throughout both volumes.
"Uncle Tom's Cabin" is an anti-slavery novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe. This novel had a profound effect on attitudes towards African Americans and slavery.
