Boston: The Grolier Society, 1899. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. 8 volume set out of 14 of the works of Lady Jackson [Lady Catherine Hannah Charlotte Elliott Jackson (1824-1891)]. The four books that are present are complete, each comprising two volumes. Lacking volumes 3 & 4, 11-14. Published by The Grolier Society, Boston, c1899. Edition des Amateurs limited to just 100 copies, this being copy #7. Bound in full black leather with 5 raised bands to the spine. The books measure 6" x 9". Top edge gilt. The set is in very good minus condition. The boards are mostly well preserved with moderate shelf wear. Leather is chipped and torn at the spine ends of some volumes. Volume 5 the rear board is detached. Volume 6 has water damage and the rear board is cracked. Volume 8 has minor water damage to the edge of the text block on the first 10 pages. Volume 9 the front board and spine are loose from the textblock but still attached at the rear hinge. Vertical staining to the front board, causing discoloration to the leather. Lady Jackson was the daughter of Thomas Elliot of Wakefield. She was also the second wife of Knight Diplomat Sir George Jackson (1785-1861), whom she married in 1856. Lady Jackson was also a prolific author in her own right, especially in the area of European history and of the court of France in the 16th century.
