A two volume set, published in 1867 and 1869, respectively. Both volumes are half-bound in leather. They both measure 5.25'' x 7.5'', with "Nooks and Corners" running to 371 pages and "Historic Ninepins" being 348 pages. "Nooks and Corners of English Life" is in very good minus condition. Black and white illustrations throughout. Some shelf wear to the spine and bumping/scuffing to the corners. The spine is toned but the gilt lettering and design is clean and unmarked. The boards are slightly stained and discolored at points but overall retain their rich green color. The binding is cracked in between the front endpapers. A previous owner's bookplate is present on the front pastedown. The tissue paper is intact with one small instance of foxing a the bottom. The text block is toned but largely bright, clean, and complete. The illustrations are well-preserved. "Historic Ninepins" is also in very good minus condition. Minor shelf wear and bumping/scuffing to the corners. Slightly more discoloration to the boards, but no significant damage. The spine is also toned, but the lettering is bright, clean, and unmarked. The same bookplate is present on the front pastedown. The text block is toned but bright, clean, and complete. A marking in pencil on the title page towards the bottom. The binding is sound. A well-preserved two-volume set of curious volumes by an old English author in beautiful half-leather binding. They will make a fine addition to any collector's bookshelf.
