Illustrated with 200 small portraits throughout the text. The book is in good plus condition. The boards and spine are foxed, stained, and scuffed, with the foxing interfering with the gilt lettering on the spine. Some shelf wear to the spine has led to cloth loss at the top and bottom, and there is bumping and scuffing to the corners. Mild foxing to the edges, and the pastedowns/endpapers. Scattered foxing throughout the text block, but it is very minor and otherwise the text block is slightly toned but bright, clean, and complete, with entertaining sketches of the subjects throughout. Pages 323-26 are torn. The binding is starting. An interesting volume with many short biographical sketches of important historical figures, both famous and obscure.
