Some chipping and paper loss to the edges and the spine, including a tear on the letter "A" in "Autumn" on the spine. Moisture stains to the edges and spine. The panels are toned with some staining. The lettering and decorations are intact, however (besides the aforementioned paper loss on the spine). The jacket is price clipped. A war saving bonds and stamps advertisement is printed on the rear flap--an interesting piece of history from the time this book was published. The book is in very good plus condition. Very little shelf wear and little to no bumping and scuffing of the corners. Moisture staining to the bottom of the front board near the spine. Offsetting on the rear endpaper in what appears to be the shape of a bookplate. The text block is toned but bright, clean, and complete. The binding is sound. Dr. Hans Zinsser was a noted physician who developed a protective vaccine for typhus. He was a physician, bacteriologist, and a prolific author. This Renaissance man was an early recipient of the National Book Award, in 1940 receiving the prize for non-fiction for his work "As I Remember Him: The Biography of R. S."
