The date of publication is uncertain, but an inscription by a previous author on one of the front endpapers of volume one is dated 1961. Both volumes measure 5'' x 7.5'', with the first running to 946 pages and the second running to 926. Both volumes come with several pages of black and white illustrations on blue paper. Both volumes in the set are quarter bound in leather with marbled paper boards and endpapers. The first volume is in very good condition. Scuffing on the spine and the bottoms of the boards. Little to no shelf wear to the spine or bumping to the corners. A few pages are uncut throughout the text. Notes and underlining in pen are present on some pages throughout the volume. The text block is otherwise bright, clean, and complete. The binding is sound. The second volume is in very good plus condition. Some scuffing to the spine and the bottoms of the boards, although not as much as the first volume. Some smudging on the front endpaper before the half-title page. "4" in pencil written below the half-title page. Slight tearing towards the bottom of the text block on pages 595 to 598. Markings in pen present at points throughout the text.
