With its original dust jacket. The book measures 5.5'' x 8.25'', 247 pages. The dust jacket is in good condition. Slight chipping and tearing to the edges of the covers. Some creasing and scuffing along the spine. Staining to the top of the front cover. The artwork is clean and clear. The other parts of the cover, flaps, rear are slightly toned but clean. The original price of $3.50 is present on the front flap. The book itself is in very good plus condition. The boards are clean and unmarked, and retain their rich red color. The lettering on the spine is bright, clear, and unmarked. Very little shelf wear to the spine and no bumping of the corners with very minor scuffing. Very slight offsetting on the front and rear endpapers and pastedowns. Some discoloration to the top edge. The text block is slightly toned but overall bright, clean, and complete. The binding is sound. This account of the only soldier executed for desertion by the American military since the Civil War was written by William Bradford Huie, a noted journalist who covered American military matters and the Civil Rights Movement. His most famous piece of writing was probably a 1956 article in Look magazine where he interviewed the men who had been acquitted of Emmett Till's murder just a few months before, and succeeded in obtaining confessions of the crime from the men. Martin Luther King, Jr. once wrote in an introduction to Huie's book on the "Freedom Summer Murders", "Three Lives for Mississippi", that "[the book] "is a part of the arsenal decent Americans can employ to make democracy for all truly a birthright and not a distant dream".
