It is bound in half leather with marbled boards. The spine is cracked and fraying, and there is some fairly heavy discoloration/foxing on the boards. The cover design is well preserved. Offsetting at the thin tissue paper present between the author's illustration and the title page. The corners are bumped and lightly scuffed. The fore-edges are toned, but the text block itself is bright, clean, and complete, with only the occasional foxing or paper tear. The illustrations are well-preserved. A previous owner left an inscription on the front endpaper, and there is a marking in pencil on one of the rear endpapers. Despite the issues with the spine, the binding for the text is sound. The gilt lettering on the spine is well-preserved and legible. This collection of Longfellow's works is beautifully preserved on the inside, and provides a comprehensive look at the writing of one of the most influential poets of all time. Any enthusiast of American poetry would be proud to have this volume in their library. It would make a fine addition to anybody's bookshelf.
