Roma: Nella Stamperia del Bernabo, 1737. 1st Edition. Hardcover. First edition. Two books in one, "Vita" being 128 pages and "Trattato" being 139 pages. The book measures 4.5" x 7.5". Bound in its original vellum with embossed bands and decorations on the spine.
The book is in very good antiquarian condition. Wear to the boards and edges with some of the leather lifting at the front hinge. Previous owner ink notations on spine and inscriptions on the front endpaper and title page. Small paper loss at the edge of the front endpaper. The textblock is clean, bright, unmarked, and complete. The binding is sound.
Saint Catherine of Genova was canonized in 1737 by Pope Clement XII. Pope Pius XII declared her patroness of the hospitals in Italy. She was an Italian Roman Catholic saint and mystic, admired for her work among the sick and poor. She is remembered because of various writings describing both these actions and her mystical experiences.
